DWTS Couple Profile: Marlee and Fabian

Season 6 of Dancing With The Stars will welcome new professional dancer Fabian Sanchez. Growing up in Colombia gave Fabian a natural sense of the Latin rhythm. Instead of turning into a professional soccer player, Fabian was swept into the world of competitive dancing. Winning the Rising Star Championship and Fred Astaire National Championship four times lead to his crown of World Mambo Champion in 2006. This season, Fabian will partner with Academy Award-winning actress Marlee Matlin.
Oscar winning actress Marlee Matlin has appeared in numerous TV shows in addition to her film career. The role she will have to play in Season 6 though will be the Best Celebrity Dancer on the floor. With the lost of her hearing, Marlee will be challenged to feel the beat as well as remember all of her routine while in high heels.
Coming from a Salsa and Merengue background, Fabian’s career have centered mostly on the Rhythm side of ballroom competition. This could prove to be a disadvantage with some of the other seasoned pros that compete in the Latin and Standard/Smooth division. The highest Rhythm professional finish was Tony Dovolani in Season 2. The partnership will need to overcome Fabian’s experience and Marlee’s disability and make the audience feel their emotions pouring out onto the floor.
